In Madrid's onetime Conde Duque barracks, now a cultural hub of Spain's capital, Madrid's municipal archive holds hundreds of years of records documenting the city's residents, long-term or short. Of especial interest for genealogy are the Padrones taken every 5 years or so, which work as a city census; and the indexes to births, marriages and deaths recorded by the civil registry in Madrid, which span most of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
